Hey, Vocal Foxies, what do you have in your cup, during the show? Usually, it's water for me. But when I am sick, have a sore throat, and so on, I have my own Larynx Liquid Love.
I won't give the actual recipe because it has been formatted to fit MY needs. With many years of "trial and error", flu after flu, show after show, I have created a drink that's designed only for me. But the ingredients are water, cognac, honey, lemon, powdered ginger, and "Halls" mentholyptus at the bottom of the cup. I drink a gallon of water before the evening show. Then I take my elixir with me onstage.
The ingredients in it thin out the mucus; relax the vocal muscles; numb sore throat; coat the vocal lining which helps retain moisture. I sip on it throughout the concert. Before I am about to belt out a powerful song, I will take a sip right before I start.
Many would use the similar type of elixir for "Hot Toddies", which is true. But any drink that we sip on as we sing shouldn't be hot. Hot drinks can irritate already irritated vocal cords, and the heat may cause swelling and inflammation. My fellow vocal community, do you have a special elixir for yourself? If so, spill the tea, with a little cognac, LOL. Stay Foxy!
