Happy New Week, Foxys! This Monday's word is coming from the "Queen of Poetry," reminding us not to be too forgiving of disrespect. This is totally the opposite of what I was taught in a cult. We are supposed to always turn the other cheek.
When I was younger, I had a friend who was adopted by a couple in the cult. No one knew he was being abused by them physically. When it finally came out, my friend had to learn to forgive them because they remained members in the church. He would see them at least five times a week since we had to attend church meetings that many times. Looking back, I realized that it was mental abuse to force him to not only forgive but engage with his longtime abusers.
I still struggle with being too forgiving of disrespect shown towards me. And all it has done was give the predator the courage to be even more disrespectful to the point of mental / verbal abuse. But I have been standing on business lately. It makes me so proud of myself and love myself more for defending me. The balance isn't always easy to find, but it takes practice to build these boundaries. So I am being patient with myself. Let's have a great week, never back down to disrespect, and stay Foxy!
