Performing Beyond Borders, Politics , and Presidents

Artistry and creativity should never be weaponized, especially for religion and politics. It frustrates me when I see athletes choose to snub other competitors because of the actions of the government. If Black Americans took the same stand, the world would not know Michael Jackson, Kanye, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder... do I need to go on?

As I travel the world performing, I never hear anyone speak about the war against Black Americans that has been going on since God was a boy. And yet, they comfortably enjoy our music, play, and profit from our music. Despite the way the world treated my ancestors, they still shared their talent.

Foxys, as a Black American I truly understand the anger of being mistreated, and the world does nothing about it. But it will not stop me from fulfilling my obligation as an artist. My talent is a gift from the universe.

When we did this cabaret in the video, I was nervous about how people were going to treat me because Trump had been elected President of America, and just acting a fool, making crazy decisions that affected other countries. Thank Goddess, every artist was mature enough to honor our gifts given to us, and created a beautiful cabaret night. Besides, if they would've ticked me off, who would sing "Halo" by Beyoncé, an American song—by the way.

Foxys, as a Black American I truly understand the anger of being mistreated, and the world does nothing about it. But it will not stop me from fulfilling my obligation as an artist. My talent is a gift from the universe. Who am I to decide who should be able to enjoy it or not?
