Say It With Me Now! Thank Goddess I'm Foxy! And why should we be thankful? Because many times people think we are stupid, unqualified, or not good enough. And that's a good thing. Allowing people to live with their assumptions of us keeps people out of our business as we make our moves in silence.

I have a regular performance circuit that I have created which crosses over three countries: America, UAE, and Russia. Now, as of the end of 2024, I have just added Lithuania. I went from being told I would never have my own band in Russia to successfully establishing myself as a full-time lead singer, with my own lane that extends across three continents. I was never a backup vocalist; no one assisted me; I had no recommendations. But what I did have was SPACE. When people underestimate you, they distance themselves, leaving you the much-needed space to spread your wings.

Allowing people to live with their assumptions of us keeps people out of our business as we make our moves in silence.

My life needed space to build, destroy, rebuild, create—to focus on my own desires. "A single, Black American female moving to Russia to live" has SO many red flags. And I continuously wave each of the flags to fan the Karmen-Is-Crazy fire. Yeah, crazy like a fox. ;)

It took me a long time to master the ability to accept people underestimating me. As a Black American female, my group is constantly needing to prove our worth to the world. Black American women have to try extra hard for the same awards other women receive for being mediocre. So it's in my blood to take pride in proving people wrong. But the more I focused on creating my own lane, the less I began to care what people think. I mean, I literally did not have the mental bandwidth to worry about others' opinions and focus on my own pleasures. Something had to give.

So when others threw rocks at my opinions, I simply caught them and used them to my advantage. They think we are dumb, Foxys. Thank Goddess! Have a great weekend. And Stay Foxy!
