I LOVE AMERICA. Now that's out of the way, somebody tell me WTF is up with our health system. One visit with my very first family doctor (I have ever had in my adult life, by the way) in Lithuania and I am (pardon my moxie) PISSED OFF!!!
First of all, the doctor's receptionist reached out to me first via phone. Since I am a new patient, she wanted me to have a full body exam, including a mammogram, blood tests for everything under the sun, EKG, etcetera. The European outlook on health is more of a maintenance outlook than a repair outlook; which is how I have always viewed health.
Secondly, she LISTENED to me. Symptoms that I brushed off as normal were concerning to her. My mental health was also on the list of things to do. Statistics show how Black Americans are highly discriminated against in the health care system. So we learn to care for ourselves. My health stays at the top of my list of priorities because it's too expensive to get sick or die. But I digress.
All of these tests helped me understand I was depleted of vital supplements that I could have sworn I had covered. She gave me a couple of prescriptions that I would have had to go to a specialist to see if I was in America!!! I was blown away! And what she prescribed to me (you don't see in the video) meant several visits to various doctors over a few months to give to me. In my first visit, I have been taken care of far too much better than the American system. Here, I feel "taken care of." The fear of a pain in your arm, or calling an ambulance is NOTHING to worry about. That having good health is a RIGHT.
I feel like this log is going into a rant. So I will let it go here. But SHAME! SHAME on the American health system.
Stay Healthy and Foxy! Fmazi.
