How i knew music was my life's calling

I cannot remember a day in my life when I didn't have music. It's my oldest and most intimate relationship I have ever had.
When I escaped the cult, it was my only companion that I trusted, that stayed with me through those lonely nights.
But despite the fact I have been performing most of my adult life, I doubted if music life had chosen me. I just couldn't believe this wonderful life was mine: supporting myself as a full-time singer, traveling internationally, self-employed.
I felt I was lucky, and one day the other shoe would drop, and this life would disappear. Then I would return to the life that was really mine, . A regular desk job, barely traveling except for an

occasional three-day cruise. So I soaked up every moment and consciously lived in the present. It was a journey to my true calling, whatever it was. But the night of Michael Jackson's funeral, I finally understood I was living my calling.
Michael Jackson was raised in the same cult in which I was raised, Jehovah's Witnesses. And I remember him being kicked out of the organization because of his Thriller video and grabbing his crotch. He was rejected from his own religious community; he endured child abuse, celebrated no holidays, birthdays, or any other holidays. And his entire childhood was stolen from him. At the demise of his life, he was in the midst of fighting accusations of sexual abuse against kids. It seemed as if he was born under a bad sign, and yet he never stopped sharing his talent.

Can you imagine a world without any of his music, videos, dances, creativity? Thank Goddess he never let any trial or tribulation stand in his way of following his calling. And that's how I understood my calling was music. I have not always had an easy life. Yet, despite any tribulation, the urge to stop performing never died. The desire to travel the world singing may have been muffled once or twice. But it was my calling, and nothing could keep me from it.
